I chose myself to represent the humanistic version of psychology because I wanted to focus on my individual freedom, my personal growth, and my self actualization. Many psychologists developed a response to psychoanalysis and behaviorism with humanistic psychology. many might stay the physical aspect of one self being. For example I can talk about my height, ethnicity, my eye color, favorite color, favorite sport, etc. Although I view humanistic psychology has something deeper than what the eye can see. I know that I am very hard-working, stubborn, and patient.
I know how hard I can work. Before I came into high school I chose to start at a performing arts school in downtown Phoenix. I was always looked at as the girl who doesn’t apply herself. Many of my teachers were wanting me to succeed, but wouldn’t necessarily Guide me. In the process of picking out which high school I’m going to I applied to the performing arts school, the application called for various amounts of things. I had to write an essay, get all of my teachers to write me a letter of recommendation, and go to the school to test in English and math. It was a very lengthy process and after a while I kind of wanted to give up. although if I were to give up I understood that I would be throwing away an opportunity that I probably would never be able to receive again. About two months before the school year started at my new high school I got a letter saying that I got into the school. I was beyond excited because I understood how much I had to do just to get into the school and I understood how much I would have to apply myself to succeed in the school. I changed my C and D grade average to an A and B grade average.
I understand that I can be stubborn at times because of how headstrong I am about certain topics. I am very passionate about a very controversial topic between individuals. I am so passionate about disabled individuals that I am a part of the club Best Buddies at my school, and I have been in Best Buddies since elementary school. It is not about changing someone’s perspective, it is more about influencing someone; to want to partake in activities with these individuals to gain their own views of another being. Rather than being told what is right and what is wrong.
Being a bigger sister of an individual who has a disability taught me to become very patient. Newborn babies are very fragile but my sister is still very fragile and she is 12 years old. I learn to not get upset if one does not respond within a certain amount of time. I learn to not force someone to make a decision. I learned to give some time and then redirect an individual. I feel as though these are my main attributes. They are all caused by something. Therefore I chose myself to represent Humanistic psychology.
